Dumfries Youth Jazz Initiative

Dumfries Youth Jazz Initiative aims to provide performance and education opportunities for young people in the Dumfries area who have an interest in jazz. Created by former members of Dumfries Youth Jazz Group, the group wishes to create the kind of events and opportunities for the youth of today that they feel would have positively benefitted them in their youth.

Dumfries Youth Jazz Group has been highly successful since its inception nearly a decade ago, and with a membership in excess of 200 there are now more and more children taking a more than casual interest in jazz. The best way for aspiring musicians to gain an insight into a career in music is to not only see professionals at work, but also to experience working along side them. This is where the idea of a 'Dumfries Jazz Clamjamphrie' came to the fore: a project that will give young musicians the chance to see the concerts of a quality not often seen outside the central belt, as well as the chance to perform on the same stage as their idols.

Chairperson: Murray Tipping. Treasurer: Robert Athol. Secretary: Ben Bryden. Other members: Alan Blair, Leah Gough Cooper.
