Section Perfection : Sunday 16th March

Section Perfection are an exciting group of young, local musicians who have all come through the Dumfries Youth Jazz Group. A quintet, playing an ecclectic range of styles from Wayne Shorter to Weather Report, the band has already developed a distinctive sound and have performed along side artists such as Mario Caribe.

Elliot Waterhouse, 17 – Trumpet
Plays with National Youth Jazz Orch of Scotland as well as Solway Sinfonia. Influences include Clifford Brown and Miles Davis.

Greig Millar, 17 – Guitar
His rock and funk sounds bring a fresh edge to the band.

Calum Stannet, 17 – Bass
Played with NYJOS and is equally skilled on double bass and bass guitar. His solid feel is inspired by a whole range of different artists from Mingus to Zappa.

Scott Murphy, 16 – Tenor Sax
Plays very creative and rhythmical solos and can turn his hand to anything. Heavily influenced by Shorter, he brings a mature exuberance to the outfit.

John Lowrie, 16 – Drums and arrangements
Has recently broken into the Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra. A very exciting prospect in Scotland, let alone Dumfries.

2pm @ The Cairndale Hotel, Admission £6/£3
